 jagdtank, my stand did the same, but i was about 30ft up when the bottom fell. thats a pain to climb down huggin the tree and the top of the stand. i did the same by tying top n bottom together. depending on which style climber you get, it can be like a recliner, but watch it, you get to comfy ya might fall out of the tree. if there were trees straight enough here is central tx, i would use a climber all the time, but its scrub brush with some narly branched tree, so a ladder stand is more suitable. climbers all the way if possible.
