A few weeks ago while hunting with Chris and Zach, my young cur had his first and last strike.  My catchdog Suzie was let out of the box for her last time. Chris and I both saw the hog. We knew it was fixing to get bad. I buried Suzie and Dirty that night.

A few days later some friends from Troy came down to go hunt hoping we could catch up the hog that killed my dogs. We ended up with a boar that went around 280 and one that was 250. Both were good sized but no the one we were looking for.

After those hunts I was on the misson to replace dogs and get my pack back up and going. I bought a dog out  of a good line from a friend of friend. Fatboy. Had him for a few days before he busted out of my kennels. The day he busted out of the kennels I picked up a new bulldog named Sandy. My luck was not going good at this point. I gave up looking for Fatbpy and picked up a saddleback named Turbo from the Waco area. With him came another bulldog in the package named Sally. I named her Sally 2 due to the fact that I already have a Sally(bmcxplott).
Fastfoward to yesterday(Friday). Got a call from a guy 30 miles to the NE from me saying he had my dog. Fatboy was found. Not sure how he got way up there but didn’t really care. I went and  picked him up. Alittle worn down and a few cuts and messed up pads. Called up Chris to see if he wanted to join Amanda and I for a little hunt. We dropped dogs alittle after dark. Huntted one place and didn’t have much action. Dogs took a few tracks but nothing panned out. As we are making our way back towards the front gate, Chris sees a set of eyes and a huge black body take off across the creek. Sally takes a track a few 100 yards but comes back. We go next door to a small place where Suzie and Dirty were killed. Chris and I were showing Amanda where it happen and how we kind of had an uneasy feeling pulling back into the same place. We were making a loop around a small coastal patch when we hear Sally open up. Turbo, saddleback, wasn’t too far behind her. Solid bay. We stoped and unloaded bulldogs. Chris had Sandy and I had Sally2. Chris noticed he didn’t have his pistol so he handed Sandy over to Amanda. We made our way towards the bay which was in a THICK little thicket. Chris joined up a few min. later. We were 30 or so yards from the bay when Sandy slipped her lead. I saw her take off past me and unclipped Sally2 and watched them close the distance to the bay. They made it a few feet from the hog when he broke bay and took off. It was silent. No sound. A few min later we heard them bay. Almost 900 yards per the gps………… Bulldogs were there…..not good. We took off towards them.
The dogs were back on the first place up by a creek. We got there the fastest we could on foot. As we got closer we could tall the baydogs were backed off a little bit. Up to this point we had no idea what size pig we had. When we got withen 50 or so yards to the bay we came up to the creek. Sandy was on the bank. She was not doing good. Sally2 came walking up to us. I wont go into detail but Sandy died on the banks of the creek and Sally2 took staples and wont be back for a month or so(I hope). Amanda sat with Sally2 and talked to Sandy while rubbing her head. Chris and I jumped the banks to see what we had.
We could see the dogs but not the hog. We were b/t a rock and a hard place for a while. We figured out the best place to get a good look down into the creek. We saw him. Sally and Turbo had a big oar hemmed up. Dogs were 6-8 foot off his head baying like crazy. Chris took two shots from his .357. Pig didn’t miss a beat. He ran down the bank alittle ways before Sally could shut him down again. We crept up above him and Chris had a perfect downward shot to him. It was a hit, the hog took off grunting like crazy. He came up the bank not too far from us and headed across a small opening. Sally and Turbo were done. After the 900 yard race and baying for 30mins they didn’t have anything left. We heard the hog run in some woods not far. We made the call to round up dogs and see what the damage to Sally2 was.
Chris and Amanda satied with Sally2 while I walked to get the truck. Sally followed. I got the truck and drove to where they were waiting. Sally2 took some medical attention. Gotta thank Chris and Amanda for all the help. We headed to the house a dog short and a dog injuryed. Sally and Turbo were fine, no cuts. Chris said that he wanted to head out in the morning and look for that hog. We both thought that he should be dead.
Alittle before 8 this morning(sat.) I called Chris to see if he was still game. He came over we loaded up a few dogs,Sally and Turbo. This time we had a 30/30 and a 7x57 to use as bulldogs. We dropped dogs at the gate and drove around the creek to where we last heard him the night before. We were walked along a dry creek bed when Sally opened up not more then 30-40 yards behind us. We had just walked next to the boar that was bedded up in a brushpile. Turbo joined in. We made our way to them. You could smell him. I saw black but couldn’t tell butt from head. About the time I made out eyes he took off, running over Turbo in the process. Sally was hot on his heels. They had him stopped 100 or so yards down the creek. Chris peeked over the brush and saw him. We poped out on top of the bluff not 30 yards from the bay. Boom.7x57.Boom.30/30. Hog rolls into the creek. We higfive and make our way down to him.
We then had to figure out a way to get out of the creek. We used my truck along with a few ropes to drag him out. When we got him to the top of the bank we still had to get in my truck.
