What if you have a dog with high food drive that will literally eat till she pops? Do you free feed then?

I've got one like that. Had her on free feed while I went on vacation. I tested it out a few days before we left,  She was terrible the first couple days, looked like a basketball. But I just loaded the feeder up with twice as much feed as needed. When we got back she was fat but not excessively. In my experience I think it leveled off after a few days and she may have fed just a little more than the other dogs.
