I've seen very few dogs that "hunt" further than distances of 250yards...even hounds I've hunted with don't range that far. You van go with almost any breed and get a short ranged dog.

The only time I see dogs that stay 250 and under is hunt with yall or monty

Any body that road hunts or hood hunts dogs are going to be shorter hunting range dogs , there's no need for a dog to hunt 1,000 yards deep then strike an run anothe mile might as well strike it close , as long as they put hog at the end don't matter to me if they huntingibg 50 yards or 200 as long as they actively hunting ,
I have found a dog that hunts with you is alot Easyer to handle if you get on that just leaves out on a bee line headed north an don't strike nothing for .5 mile an still running flat out hunting that's not good for me ,
Alot of those dogs run past beded down hogs that been there for awhile

Hey Jo you know my dogs, they're short to medium range typically and I agree with you but I think it all goes back to hunting style.
