It's not near as much about the "line" of dogs as it is the standards of the man breeding and culling the dogs...
Best advice ever given on this board. You can take a particular bloodline of dogs (I don't care what breed) as long as we are talking about performance dogs, and you can take two guys and they can start their program with puppies from the same breeder. Example, 2 guys go to a breeder and buy 10 puppies each. The puppies are bred the exact same way, littermates, etc. Both these guys raise up the puppies and hunt them, etc. If these 2 fellows have different expectations about what a good dog is, then you can come back 20 years later and get puppies from these same two guys and they will be like 2 different bloodlines of dogs, even though they are bred the same. If one guy makes excuses or has "my dog syndrome", and he don't have the testicular fortitude to cull, then his dogs will be inferior to the man who aint afraid to pull a trigger. Its as simple as that.
