Treeing Walkers (RW): Better nose and cold trailing abilities than the running walker with the ability to slow down and work out a track. Stronger body and larger muscle/bone frame than the RW. Much better at treeing or baying than the RW. Usually have more of a bawl mouth than the RW. Used for coon, and big game.
Running Walkers (RW): Easy to find here in Louisiana, many hundreds of them are for sale after deer dog season. Much faster than the treeing walker (TW). Primarily used for running deer and fox.
I am a plott guy, been that way for a while and I like them. I have not consistently hunted any other breed of hound so I can can assess many of the other hound breeds. If I were going to switch from the plott to another hound, I would most like swtich to the TW.
