I was needing a dog with a better nose and I was thinking a hound I know most are open on track but I don't mind that do y'all think it would be better to hunt a hound with fast gritty dogs or what's y'all's opinions

You know, you can find hounds that are coldnose, gritty & fast & have it all in the same dog.  I will say hounds are not for everybody and I have cussed mine alot when I was ready to go home & they were not.lol Another downside to hunting gritty long range dogs, are they will be busted up or worse by the time you get there. I try to water my dogs down a little by hunting a real gritty dog with one that is not to gritty. They still catch most of the hogs 120# & under.

Got lucky on the hog on the right. Three of my plotts jumped him, ran him about 1/2 mile & caught him. Took us about 15 minutes to get there but they had him under control. Any longer & when the ears came off, those dogs would be in for a whooping. He had about 2 1/2" cutters & weighed about 225#. Not a monster but I would rather my plotts bay hogs like that.
The hog on the left, they caught him at first, then two of my females backed off & bayed, while my male held the whole time until we got there with a bulldog. both hogs were in the 225# range.
