Some people have super rough dogs that by the time they get their hands on the hog it would be more humane to kill it.

Then other folks are accustomed to only catching one hog and calling it a hunt.

If you are a little bit scared of turning one loose and having it come get ya. Leave it tied for thirty minutes or so to Make it's legs sore. Most of them that I turn loose stay layed down as we walk of, but sometimes I like to give em a good kick to the rear when someone new is on the trip.
