snakes have there fork toungs out picking up heat from various ranges. now moth ball don't really work and if you will look up online about snake hunters used to put gas in dens to push snakes out, now what they don't tell you is that those snakes will never go back in those holes again because of the vapors that stay in there. at some of these stores you'll find on the shelves different snake begon crap that don't work. now if your house is some what close to the ground you can put a trench all the way around you house and go to the hardware store and get some hard ware cloth about a 1/4 inch and run it all the way around you house it will keep them out but as far as trying to keep them out of your yard, won't happen. i used to catch and mike rattlesnakes for years and it is almost impossible to keep them out, now if you find something that work all the time please let me know i would really like to try it myself
