That's a pretty interesting part of history as a way of life. What's the year/time frame of this?

Kinda like free range cattle,  hogs were the same? Just wondering, was it mostly the big floppy eared 500 pound domestic swine? Or was it a mixture of the slim Russian type "tear ya up" kinda hogs?
