Its all in what YOU have the most confidence in. If you flinch with a .270, but can drill tacks with a .243, then the .270 is not much good to you.
I'd venture to say that the .22 and 30/30 have killed more deer than all other calibers combined

I would have to agree on the confidence thing, and been privy to a many a deer dropped in their tracks with a .22lr. scrabble the brain with a shot in the bur of the ear, and they will drop like a 100lb sack of taters.
