well i have 2 catch dogs one is a  pit 65# the other is a 1/2 pit 1/2 cat. 60#, i use these dogs both ways RCD and Lead in when on wheeler.
i ride a horse or a mule 99% of the time i hunt, both of my catch dogs run loose. they will hang with me till they hear a dog bay then they are gone.  if the bay breaks they will run a ways and if they dont hear dogs barking they come back in. but if they hear dogs baying they keep going.
i am always right behind them on my horse and have not had a problem getting too them, i have to hustle sometimes ,cross a creek ect. but i always figure out a way to be there asap
my catch dogs dont tear hogs they lock on a ear and stay , if a hog gets tore its from one of my bay dogs pulling hide.

i had to go thru a few catch dogs to find what i wanted.

i dont want my catch dogs to hunt at all.. i cant use those for my RCD

i dont want a dog that  shakes his head after catching an ear.

i like my catch dogs to catch and shoulder up with that hog and lay flat ,pulling down low..

i dont like a catch dog that wants to stand up out in front of a hog, if he has to be out front i want that dog down low.
