If you're trying to leave the pig intact then it doesn't make sense to use any method other than a break stick. In my humble opinion that is.
Why would you hit the dog to get it off? Take a pretty big dipnumber 2 to think that's the best approach. (That opinion isn't very humble...)
How long does it take to choke a pit bull dog to sleep? It only takes like seven seconds to use a break stick and there's no threat of hurting the dog at all.
That being said is brain cell loss really a big issue when dealing with a pit bull? Not really.
