I run a vest on my RCD. He is on the ground with the rest hunting and running the whole hunt. I have no less than 20 cuts and gashes in that vest in the last year. He got poked 1 time in his rear leg. I have not had to stitch him up at all with the vest. So I feel it has been worth the money.

On the con side: a vest can catch in briars. I have seen mine come out with vines hanging from the vest. When it's hot I have to watch them a lil closer cause the vest will hold in heat. Make sure if u buy a vest it doesn't hold water or soak up water. A vest full of water will weigh down ur dog and could cause it to drown. I have found the lighter Kevlar vest hold less water but different brands may hold more water than others even in Kevlar.
