Your right, I apologize for the "golden turd" comment. I have been fortunate enough to never have to buy dogs, so was just shocked at the price. I can understand your example of hunters spending small fortune on equipment. Just ask my wife, I'm guilty of it also. With that, I feel that the dog is more valuable than the rest of that junk. So, yes they probably are worth that price to certain people. My bad for judging.
