I know an old cat hunter that says he has used all different types of antennas. He stuck with just getting a roll of 12 gauge or 14 gunge I believe solid copper wire and crimps an eye on the end and screw it in its place. He cuts them about 12/16 in long, and swears he gets just as long of range as any factory antenna he has bought.
