I would be skeptical about an older pup as well, however i kept my last litter to a lil over 6 months selected the two i wanted and then sold the others.   All six were coming on at the same rate so my selection was solely based on looks and attitude and simply because these two stood out to me.  Hindsight, shoulda kept a different two 

Guess what im sayin is if somone only has 1 6 month old pup they are gettin rid of and dont have any littermates they are keepin pass.
