Prior to Lander establishing his line in 1964 that made the breed a recognizable standard. The history of curs can be up to anyone's interpatation. Here is a good site that reflects that info

I've read that before, and it makes no mention of Ridgebacks. They were bred in Africa. I could be wrong, but I don't think any of the early American settlers (who bred curs) came from Africa.
The settlers who bred curs where poor. Guess u missed where it talked of trade routes and the breeding the best dogs. I'm not a history buff but the trade routes from Africa was huge in all aspects. So i might not have worded it correctly ,orriginated , but the ridgeback scent hound breed was in the mix, to help form the cur.
