SBMCBA was founded by Howard Carnathan of Mooresville, MS. Though I'm sure his intention was to further his Bruno line of big, red BMCs . . it accepted lots of other lines, strains, etc. Randy Wright started off with a Carnathan bred dog or dogs . . but after he acquired Ben he peeled off and founded the Foundation Breeders deal. My understanding was that the original dogs there had to be Ben bred or at least approved by Wright in order to get in.
Howard Carnathan later left or was forced out of the SBMCBA and then formed the American Blackmouth Cur Registry . . and spent years promoting his A-B-C dogs (Ability, Brains, Conformation). Howard was quite a character when he was actively promoting his dogs and we went round and round on many occasions. But he was always well intentioned when it came to cur dogs . . he had a wealth of info and didn't mind proving it to you. He once gave me a 95 lb male dog named Chester and he spent countless hours on the phone telling me about old dogs and old breeders. Somewhere in these tubs and boxes of dog materials I have a handful of his monthly newsletters he mailed out to friends and ABC dog owners. The newsletters always had helpful tips on dog raising, training, etc . . . like this one I remember . . Hold your puppy's face up against the hot exhaust pup of a running car to teach them to avoid cars and trucks. LOL.
