These are the emails I plan to send. Do y'all have any suggestions for any other points I should make?
Rep. Richard,
I am writing to urge you to vote against HB958. This bill would prohibit the transfer of live feral hogs. I believe this would be counter productive to helping reduce the number of wild hogs in Louisiana.
I hunt these hogs with highly trained dogs. It is NECESSARY for me to bring hogs that I have caught back to my training facility. Inexperienced dogs must be exposed to hogs in a controlled enviroment. This would be next to impossible to do without bringing the hog to a training facility.
I will often put hogs into a trailer when hunting on hot days. I will continue hunting and catching hogs until the hunt is over. Then I transport the hogs to be killed and processed one at a time. If this law passes I will have to kill the hogs before I can transport them to my kill/processing site. The hogs would sour before I could get them to an apropriate kill/processing site as I often travel a few hours to hunt.
If HB958 were to pass, I would be more inclined to practice catch and release on some places, and it wold no longer be reasonable to hunt some places that I currently hunt.
Thanks for your time,
Senator Chabert,
I am writing to you to strongly urge you to consider voting in favor of Senate Bill 324. This bill would legalize night time hunting of feral hogs year round.
Feral hogs are an increasing problem in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes. I know of several cane farmers that are losing crops and continually damaging equipment because of the damage they do to the land.
Thanks for your time,
