Depends on what you're trying to do... If you're trying to train pups that are ready for the big woods then it's nice to have a couple of dogs that know what they're doing out there to show some pups what to do. If you're trying to just catch hogs then your best dog and a CD should be able to do the job. If you're asking how many do you HAVE to take to catch a hog, then one is the answer. We have two dogs in our crews that are one out dogs. The ideal situation for me is two good strike dogs and two good CDs. That way in case there is split bays you can split up and catch both hogs. JMO
