The lady I got my Doberman from fed her dogs raw chicken and told me all about the benefits so I continued to feed him the same thing. We stayed very much in touch, and at one point after her gyp had two small litters, 3 pups then 2, she said she was told that during pregnancy females need more carbohydrates then they'll get from feeding straight chicken.
You've probably come across in your research that you're supposed to supplement raw feeding with things like vegetables, etc. to balance things out. For me that gets to be too much trouble to keep up with so I feed my dogs half raw chicken which I can get high quality for cheap and then half a high quality kibble. I'd say my dogs are in great shape. They have more stamina then any other dog in either my schutzhund club or bird dog club, and we're about to do a multi-day 40-50 mile mountain bike trip in the Ouachitah mountains in November.
Whenever I've asked my vet about it he seems fine with it and just says I need be careful washing my hands and keeping the counters clean around all that chicken. Dogs eating cooked chicken MEAT is fine, but I'd be surprised if you're vet said to boil your raw chicken if you're feeding bones as well which you should be. Dogs have no problem chomping through raw bones, but when you cook them it changes their structure and causes them to splinter which is bad.
Good luck to you. Sorry to hear your dog got sick, but glad to hear the pups are alright.

I was thinking the same thing regarding the cooked chicken. I can't say that its a fact or not but I do know that my entire life I have heard and been told to never feed a dog cooked chicken bones for the reasons stated above.
