There are some things posted on this thread that I've found true...

1. If a gyp gets cut the males will think she's in heat, this is true, I had a gyp get cut in her female part and I sewed her up and took her back to the truck and continued hunting, when we got back to the truck the very same younger males that was hunting with her earlier in the night and not paying her no mind were going crazy trying to get to her and tried riding her.

2. Cutting a dogs ear off because of heatstroke, you don't cut the ear off, you cut the very tip of it off and it might just be my experience but I've seen this done on more than one occasion and the dogs survived.

3. Training a dog not to cross rivers, with today's modern technology such as the alpha it is very easily to do, I know several deer and coon doggers who have trained their dogs to not cross rivers or black top roads because of property lines or from of safety aspect.

To get back on topic...

1. Fellow once told me that a dog absorbs water through their pads, so swimming a dog during a keep or conditioning program would cause the dogs problems during the match or hunt.

2. There's no such thing as good catahoulas, I just laugh to myself and then ask if they want to go put a dog on the ground to see for sure.

3. The best one I've heard ever since I've been messing with dogs I just heard a few weeks or so ago and I read it on here, and that is if your not hunting one persons style then your not doing it right and if you have to use more than one dog to catch a hog (ex. Baydog and catch dog) then you have half a hog dog. That is one of the most absurd things I've ever heard. I guess any cowhand who has to use a rope and a saddle ain't a cowboy or a fisherman who has to use a hook, line, and sinker ain't a fisherman.
