44MAG, It seems you're on a personal mission to discredit anyone who breeds bulldogs.  There are lots of guys on this board who are dedicated to breeding quality bulldogs.  Just because they don't get their catch dogs off Craigslist, it doesn't mean they are out to screw over "young guys", nor does it mean that they are trying to make money off their dogs.  And just because they ENJOY breeding bulldogs and trying to produce something of quality, that doesn't give you the right to belittle them/us.  It seems you have a personal problem with folks who ENJOY breeding, raising, training their bulldogs.  Everyone knows that a catch dog can be found on Craigslist or at the pound, but just because that's so, it doesn't mean that any and all other bulldogs that someone purchases are by default "overpriced".  The dogs on Craigslist were created by "breeders" too.  Somebody had to breed them, so if not for these "breeders" that you seem to despise, you wouldn't be able to get dogs off Craigslist.  It really only matters to the person who buys the dog.  I'm sure lots of folks think Tony Romo is overpaid, but it's Jerry Jones' money, and as long as he thinks his money is well spent, then it really doesn't matter what the rest of us think.

As for myself, yes I have a very expensive bulldog with a fancy pedigree that I paid a lot of money for.  But I didn't buy the dog to catch hogs with.  I stud the dog out to other breeders of high-end bulldogs.  And yes, I get a lot of money for the stud fee, and yes, I sometimes sell puppies and some of those puppies bring as much as $1,500.  But what you don't understand is that the people who pay that stud fee and buy those puppies know EXACTLY what they are buying and nobody is taking advantage of anybody.  The definition of a fair price is when two parties agree to a price and both parties are satisfied.  In other words, somebody has to want the puppy more than they want their $1,500.  Nobody is twisting anybody's arm and nobody is having to tell lies to sell the pups.  I studded my male out 7 times in the last 6 months for a total of $9,000.  And most likely NOT A SINGLE ONE of those puppies will ever even see a hog.  Now at the same time, I will breed that same male to a proven catch dog female, either AB or un-papered pit, and will give the puppies away to hog hunters.  So you're argument that "breeders" are taking advantage of young guys . . . doesn't hold water.  I think you're missing the point here . . . just because someone is a breeder, that doesn't make them a con artist.  I had a fellow bring a good catch dog gyp to my male recently because he wanted some gamier type pups.  I didn't charge him a dime for the stud fee.

You make broad generalizations and try to categorize people who want to breed better bulldogs as somehow being snake-oil salesman.  And I will 100% agree with you that a good catch dog can be cheap or free and gotten from the pound.  But just because someone has a lot of time, money, dedication and years of commitment to breeding good bulldogs, you want to somehow belittle them by calling them "breeders taking advantage of kids".  You try to categorize me as a "breeder", as if the term "breeder" is supposed to be automatically perceived as some negative character flaw.  I am happy with the dogs I have, I pay for their feed, so as long as they please me and the people who W-A-N-T to buy them, that is all that matters.
