I start my young ones out toning them everytime I call them in... no matter if they're close or far. Do this over and over... it doesn't take long for them to know what the tone means. Once the dogs learn it, you can watch them stop on the Garmin and listen for your call... or turn around and start back trailing out. All my older dogs I could tone out of a knock down drag out race. It sure makes it a pleasure hunting that way... I wish everyone would do it.
