I run vest on my rough dogs. I run southern style traditional full catch vest. I have had all mine made to fit my dogs. None of them have any trouble swimming or running. To me the most important things are fit, material, flexibility and protection. The vest I run do not hold water. They fit well enough to allow full range of motion. Flexible enough they can still move. As far as I'm concerned as good if not better protection than anything out there.
