Hookworms are blood suckers and can kill a pup quickly...if the pups live on a ground floor and in a humid climate the chance of re-infection  goes up...also  they can get infected through their paws/skin and from the mama's milk if she is wormy...they can also ingest them through eating or chewing on things...older dogs can have them and look healthy because they develop somewhat an immunity and if they are healthy they can fight off illness...but they can infect pups through their feces etc...in my opinion  hookworms can be deadly to puppies as compared to other worms...
