I know few old timers that used dogs in this manner if penning cows its a cow dog hog hunting its a hog dog. That was there way of doing it. the problem with this is if there are cows on your hog hunt your going to have a problem. Now there are dogs that can do what you want cows vs hogs but most dogs can't determine the difference. So to me rule number one a hog dog should never be started on a cow he should know cattle is never to be messed with. It only takes one bark and you could have a mess on your hand. I don't know bout your area but here if your dog is out baying cows and ain't spose to be the ranchers might put a hole thru em
