NATURALS first, I won’t keep anything that’s not a natural and dang sure won’t breed one, aside from that I look at their prey drive ( how much they want to catch the game their after) and the next is intelligence, this in my opinion is one of the most overlooked things when breeding dogs, working dogs are no different from working men, there are some guys you can assign a task to and be assured that when you get back it’ll be done right, then there’s those guys that are great workers but have to be taught the same things over and over again and can’t get the job done if left to do it themselves, the latter individuals don’t have the intelligence to do their jobs, they may have all the heart in the world but don’t have it upstairs to be able to put together and utilize their skills, I’ve worked with a pile of different men from all walks of life from all around the planet and have owned countless dogs over the years and this seems to be a big correlation between the two, look at just about any profession and 95% of the people in leadership roles got there on their intelligence first and hard work second...
