A week is a pretty long time  but you can try children's benadryl. Dexamethasone would be what I would give. It's an anti-inflammatory steroid. It's likely what a vet would give. Swelling around the neck and head can get bad enough to restrict their breathing. This probably won't do that but the way I am, why let it continue to get worse if you can prevent it.
