My idea of a good hunt is about the same as your shotgun, I'm with NLA on the number of dogs 1 for certain hogs, a pair or a pair and a young dog. I was raised to have and hunt 3 dogs and have a pup at home. But those 3 done everything but wouldn't put a mouth on one unless you told them to, I only remember maybe one or two that grandpa ever let live that he had to muzzle. But the couple he did as soon as you said there name they would come straight to you because they knew the muzzle was coming off. Ok back on subject my favorite hog to catch (if I don't need anymore meat) is a 80 to 100 pound boar cut him bob his tail a little over hand width, spray a little pb blast on any dog bites and cuts then send him in his way, throw the nuts to the dogs. My only thing is that if I'm ready to go and I don't hoop, holler and beep collars I want get out of the woods until God know when. Now I'm not complaining about that but sometimes they do make me wish I had some of them 30 min dogs.
