I took the dogs I had at the time (1 jagdterrier and that heideterrier) out to my usual spot for an afternoon run. I dropped them on a road we’ve had struck tracks from in the past, well those two lit out of there like their hair was on fire. Then it sputtered a bit and I got the jagd back, but the heideterrier kept running and wouldn’t respond to the tone or anything.

I knew where she was headed so I got the truck and had to drive around to her, I get to a locked gate and set out on foot. I finally get her and I’m a hot potato cuz she was ignoring me big time. So I try to cool my temper and make the best of things and start walking about looking for some trouble to get into. I see an area I think looks like a nice spot to maybe deer hunt from.

The dogs are out doing their thing, as I lean against a tree I see what looks like a silhouette target of a boar standing about 30 yards from me. Just then I noticed my jagd was over there, well he see the boar and starts barking and baying. The boar doesn’t like it and breaks, I think “welp, that’s the last I’ve seen of him”. About 10 seconds later the jagd stops him and bays him up, I start running to get there before the heide because she’s a known bay buster.

I’ve got the target in sight and I hear the other dog coming in hot right behind me. She goes in and catches him on the cheek and holding him there. They go at it for a bit then the boar knocks her loose, I didn’t wait, I move in with my catch dog named Kimber (10mm) and set him down. I felt like we were just a couple over the hill old men doing the dance. He was worn out and full of scars, but it was a good experience for the dogs.
