It's just flat bar on top with two holes drilled in it. I need to move the bottom of the shock forward a little so I can put my trailer ball back on it. As far as length, I just measured it and went to the auto parts and found a shock about an inch or two longer, fully extended. Works great even with three or four dogs on it.
