I know that is exactly what the Lacys were developed for, herding range hogs, and I'm sure that instinct is still in some of them. I'd love to see someone actually train a few for a competition like this. I know I would if I had the resources. Because as far as preserving the historical purpose of the breed, this would be the perfect test. I think it is just a neat idea for any cur breed and I hope y'all run with it.
Speaking of historical purpose, you guys might like this article and these videos the NLDA pulled together. The article is from 1942 on hog dogs as they were known back then. The two videos are from our interview with Helen Lacy Gibbs, granddaughter of one of the Lacy brothers, who worked Lacys on hogs in that same manner. I don't think we got her complete description of how they actually penned the pigs on video, but essentially the dogs would goad the pigs into chasing them, leading them into a pen, then jumping out through a small hole in the back panel. Must have been a sight to see!
