Wow! Here's a question for everyone I'm sure it been brought up before. I've never had to train a catch dog cause I don't have any my brother has the CD's so how old do they have to be to get started? Or the preferable age? Especially with the big breeds does it make a difference?

Hogdoggintexas the dog is a female and I am going to run her with my Catdo as a team. The Catdo will get a lot of hunting since I am also starting an English Mastiff cross at the same time as the BullyDane. I think I will only run the BullyDane when I have a good idea what I am on until she is 1 year old to try to make sure her teeth are set. I don't know of any way to tell on the teeth just 1 Yr seemed good to me Christina, would like to know for sure myself.   John

Hogdoggintexas you posted as I was typing but what I have done is almost what you say. I showed her a 25lb pig at 6 months and a 50lb pig at about 8 and 9 months and now going to selectively let her woods hunt at 10months as a backup to the Catdo a couple times a month until 1 year and then it's Katie bar the door.     John

Rowdy, I think you have it right on starting your dog. Danes will usually start a little later I've been told but when you throw in the Pit who knows what will happen. I know mine will catch on small hogs but I will not push her for a while and let her settle in and gain confidence. You've got the blood there just may take a while to flip that switch but when it flips it will all be worth the patiences and waiting.
Hogdoggintexas your Pogo is a fine looking dog.

I'd like to know how that pup you got from Josh turns out.  I haven't had a chance to hunt with Josh yet we've made plans but stuff always comes up. i'd like to see Riddick in the woods.  i think a lot of people don't like styles different than their own.  i know a kid that sure as heck didn't help matters any when it came to Josh.
