i have a cat/boxer gyp. ive only seen her in a pen and she is very rough. she doesnt catch and hold on, she'll grab an ear, snout, leg, nuts,, whatever and hold for a few seconds and let go, bark, then catch again. it be much of a loss if i lose this dog but im worried that my other cur dogs might get hurt hunting with this dog. they arent real rough dogs but they will sink some teeth in a hog. what are yalls experiences and opinions on this?

I would put her in a pen with a sure nuff big, rough, wild hog that would teach her to back up and bay. If she is still catchy then she might break the bay. Some rough dogs can keep a hog in one place, it just depends on the dog. Now I am giving this advice knowing all well that I have 2 rough dogs that couldn't be broke of it. LOL  Grin

X2

I think if you are going to put her on running hogs... she's just to make them run worse.

I might keep him just for some backup but I would never trust him if he caught one by himself.

I agree with the other guys, this type dog will cause you to lose more hogs to broke bays than you will ever catch with it. Just my experience, but not the type of dog you will consistently stop hogs with..especially dog wise hogs.
