Pretty much if a gator gets ahold of a dog the dog is done for. There's enough pressure in one bite to rip a dog in half, take off a leg, head etc. So if the dog aint already dead I'd put the dog down.
This is not exactly true. I have seen 3 dogs caught by a gator and get away. All had teeth puncture wounds and that was it. All the gators were over 6'. It was in shallow water (less than 2 ft.) and the gator could not drown the dog and they could get away. Deep water no chance and the gator just has to sink to the bottom and drown the dog.
I caught two 3 legged hogs that were gator bit last year and got away.
They are lazy and dont like to fight to hard for a meal!
