So another couple of questions for the hog hunters hunting off horse back.
Does it make it difference of how many dogs your running on the ground and if so why?
How are you leading the bulldogs?
Personally I've seen long leads, to RCD's, to a ring platted in the horses tell and clip the bulldog to it...Don't mean to hijack the thread, but its all related in the end
Its my thread and I like it. I have led a few with a long lead. It works pretty good until the lead gets under your horse's tail! lol. I like tying off to the tail. It has worked out better for me. One of my hunting buddies keeps his catch dog on his horse with him. He ties a blanket off on the back and she rides real nice. Im still looking for that special catch dog that stays by my mule without a lead and only goes to a bay when commanded too. Thats a hassle free deal all the way around. I have had a few but aint had them in a while.

Well when you find that special catchdog, you needa breed it and ill hold some of the pups for you to make sure they get plenty of exercise Thats like looking for a needle in a haystack I don't hardly ever hunt more than two dogs on the ground at once, and usually its one dog and a puppy...Its not the way just a way for me...For me to many dogs is a big hassle on horseback trying to catch em all up and without em trying to roll back out, it can lead to a long day or night

I have hunted with rcd, lead in, and riding behind the saddle. I prefer rcd for most places. Lead in worked ok hunting around grain fields, and behind saddle in thick stuff. Had one lead in that wigged out and tried to catch the horse, but ended up catching my oxbow stirrup instead. That little dog is no longer with us.
My favorite way to hunt is horseback, but for most places it is more practical for me to use my kawasaki mule.

Yep! Like a needle in a haystack!
I took the two I had years ago for granted. Now I know that I just got lucky with them.
My modes of transportation dont usually dictate how many dogs I use unless I have pups to hunt. I dont like keeping two pups on the ground at the same time. In the cooler months when we can hunt all day, I can rotate them from the 4 wheeler when I feel like it.

One of the old outlaws I hang out with... tells some good stories from the old days.... he told me of an old feller that always came leading his horse out of the swamp with his cur dogs in tow, and a big, fat hog draped over the saddle... They always asked him, "how'd you get that big ol' hog up there by yerself?" .... The old man would just grin ....Throw that rope over a good limb... pull him up just high enuff to get a horse under him, then ride a few wraps around the tree to hold him... position "extremelly" broke horse under said hog... and carefully slack off till hog is sat down on "extremely" broke said horse

Noah, We have toted a hog out in the saddle on Mandi's colt, in my custom Slade saddle of all things. It worked okay, but I would still rather ride the horse and drag the hog. If you haven't already noticed, I am not much for walking. I have had to lead my horse on a couple of occasions when we were in real boggy, hock deep mud, and I was worried about my horse toting me and dragging the hog.

a good 4 or 5 ft roll of conveyer belting is good for a sled and fairly easy to pack. 7 or so in.from the drag end punch 2 holes 8 in. apart and then 1 hole bout 1 1/2 in from the end to run your rope back thru so that it sleds more by rollin up the edge.has work for us in just about every thing cept the big rocks.few holes in the sides and you can lace your hogs in for securin em to the belt.1 will usually last a season. man that swingin em up in the saddle is a rodeo sometimes .my retarded buddy has put some nice size hogs up in the saddle .and hes also made at least 1 old broke roppin horse where he wont come within 50 yyrds of hog caught.
