He is ready to start!!I will let my catch dog pups run with the curdogs 2 or 3 time They will catch the hog but it will teach them why the dogs are barking!!I do not like a cur dog to be ruff like that so I only do it with finished curs!! Once he gets the hang of it then start leading him!! I leave the suit off my catch dogs for several catchs and let them get punked a few times it will teach them to get to the shoulder of a hog!!I had several catch dogs there suits looked brand new! I have a suit that I have been running for about 4 years it might have 6 pokes in it!! I see some suits that look like they have been through a tenderizer!! I is aliite harsh on the catch dog for them first few punking's but that is the only way for them to learn to get to the shoulder!!Now I will be right behind him if I send one in naked and will get the hog caught fast so the hog don't have time to jack him up to fast!!

when catch dogs teeth are fully set, start on smaller hogs to build confidence, and work up to bigger hogs. a young pup can get whipped back and be ruined, and not all bull dogs are cut out to be catch dogs, u can have a dog that wants to kill and not catch, thats my OP.

The earliest I have started one is about a 1 1/2 years and I would start them on smaller hogs. I don't want them getting beet up by a big boar. I think this could ruin a young dog. I have seen people start them as early as 1 year with no problems, but I just prefer a 1 1/2.

Just wanted to ad I have let them catch in a pen as early as 8 months but it was a small hog and i was right there with them. I just wanted to see in they had it. Once I proved that they were worth keeping I didn't put them on another hog unil 1 1/2. Just wanted to clarify.

i wait until 18mnths my vet said there teeth are not set until then , and then i start on small pigs. first i put a bay dog in pen and then i let my cd watch for a while to let him get worked up and let him go 90% of time they catch good. then i go 50 to75 yrds away and turn him lose teach him to go to bay. 4 or 5 times and hes ready
