I hear all these people talk about how big a dog is. But I always had over-sized Rottweilers 150-160 lbs and they were in shape. It is all about genes and conditioning. I like big dogs but just do not expect them to run to run a marathon. I decided to go with Dogos because I want a large catch dog. A smaller dog may get through stuff faster but when it comes to holding I prefer a bigger dog. But it all boils down to what you want and you prefer. But if it gets in and holds I like it.

It is at the weight limit for males which is twenty lbs more than females. Which could mean not pure blooded or selective breeding for an oversized dog. Could be the scale was a little off. No matter What I hope she catches solid for you.

I have a male who was a slow starter, but glad I had patience with him. He is a solid cd and very well mannered. I also have a female I'm about to start with out of the same blood. Now I have a breeding pair with good blood thanks to Scott. He can tell you all you need to know about AB's!

Just want to clarify that you do understand dogs of that size are not representative of the breed as a whole. Whatever issue that may pop up as a result of the size (which as you said is your preference) applies to your dog. Many people feel the need to label the whole Ab breed even dogs that are not of that lineage based on isolated situations.

A 130 pound gyp is not a performance AB, if indeed she is a purebred dog...she'd be of the Johnson type. As Crib said: Just want to clarify that you do understand dogs of that size are not representative of the breed as a whole. There is quite a bit of difference between those Johnson dogs and the Scott/performance/standard dogs (as well as hybrids). With that in mind, it'd be difficult to give you even generalized expectations of what you are working with.

I got into Abs before I used them for hunting. So I guess I am an AB guy before a hog hunter. The breed has changed a lot over the past 15 years I have been in it. I am not a breeder just always an enthusiast that loves to hunt with them as I feel if you have a good one they are the best at getting the job done in the woods. Unfortunately I don’t think most hunters have seen real good Abs in the woods. And rightly so as there are not many of them. I have had the opportunity to have dogs off of a lot of the top yards in the country and to be honest was very disappointed with most. I think as a breed they could be great but most are not due to the bad breeding and owners who breed dogs that are real mediocre. In ten years of hunting I have only kept two bulldogs that I felt would get the job done no matter what. Got rid of all the rest due to factors that to me did not represent what these dogs should be. I think the Dogo is experiencing some of the same problems as a breed. Folks breeding dogs for money, looks over function, breeding mediocre dogs to mediocre dogs. Just my thoughts on the AB.
As to your dog you got, I would like to see pics of a 130 pound girl. If she works for you then that is all you can ask cause you will be feeding her. And I would guess at 130 pounds that will be lots of feed. lol
