I have two AB's in my kennels right now that are VERY happy.  In fact, they're so happy that they never stop wagging their tails.  Because of their happiness, they have beaten them (tails) on the kennel panels to the point that both are bleeding on the tips and the dogs (which are white) have little blood streaks on both sides of their rear flanks.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?  I've considered maybe heating something super hot and cauterizing the ends.  Anyone have any experience fixing a problem such as this?

Have them cut off.....or put em on a chain.but once that starts on a dog like that it takes along time to heal.

seen it get bad, buds dog had tail amputated, if its a BD it shouldnt bother it too bad, but a pit will lose a lil ability because they use the tail for balance, chain or larger kennel5x8 min. is your only hope, it will heal not quickly but not too long, for sure get em outta the crates asap

I noticed both of CD's have developed the same thing within the last couple of weeks.  It has to be something with the cold weather because both have been in the same kennels for a while and this is the first time I've seen it on these two.

i had a pit that that happened too.  i tried vet wrap, he pulled it off, tried liquid skin and it wore off before it could do any good.  i finally vet wrapped the end of his tail, put a sock over it and then taped the sock to his tail for a couple days until it could start healing.  i think i put cut heal over it too.

You could band the last 3 inches of it there will be no blood curculation so no more bleeding it will fall off eventually.

Thanks for the suggestion, but my dogs aren't kept in crates and my kennels are far larger than 5' X 8'.

I might have to try and rig them up on a temporary chain somehow.  Funny I've had dogs in these kennels for close to two years and this is the first time it's happened and to two different dogs at that.

I had the same problem on my cd Buddy. My father-in-law took him for a while and had his tail docked while he had him. He would get blood specks all over anything near him. Docking it fixed the problem.

Build some ample kennels.       Grin. Had one that did that. I just waited it out.

Super glue....put it on the tail where it's bleeding and then have a paper towel handy and wrap that around the glued spot.....some of it will adhere to the glue and it will 'set'. Peel off the towel that hasn't stuck and it should control the bleeding. My best dog is white and has really thin skin on her ears, she's always getting them nicked by a briar and they bleed like heck. So I had the idea to use super glue and it worked great.

Just repeating what everyone else said but one of mine had the same problem. It eventually healed.  I just kept a cut and heal type spray on it.  Good luck.

I'd be a little leary of trying to cauterize them just out of fear of damaging the hairl folicles.....ending in a bald tail or something.  i know how baldness can affect ones self-esteem.

I used to raise beagles and this problem happened alot due to them whippin the tails in the briars, they make a band that you can buy at many feed stores that are are used to put on sheep testicles. It sounds painful but the dogs dont even notice it and the tail will just fall off in about 4-5 days. Many guys in La bob beagles tails so you might want to try  a rabbit hunting site if you cant find the band or shoot me a pm and I will find one for you.
