Wanted to share my last two hunts with everyone. Nothing big or exciting just different to the norm.

Met up with Richard the other day on one of my places on the Brazos. I stopped on the road  and bs a little with the land owner before I met Richard.

I had to get the hog scouting report. We usually have pretty good luck on his place come tournament time.

We started at a familiar place but decided to hunt a small creek on the edge of some plowed fields that we usually miss. We take a new route and cut across the field to send dogs down the creek where we can intercept them before the river.

I pull up to some river cane and Mud bails off the ranger. We cut my jagd Luke in and within a minute have a bay.

We cut the bulldogs in and head behind them. You talking bout a mess...my first time in that river cane and I hope the last. That was the worse stuff I have ever been in...at one point I was standing on top of a caught hog but on top of the cane.  I hear crap crashing and thrashing, breaking through ....you dont know if it is dogs or hogs. We had a good boar bust out that we missed.

The hogs had tunnels through there and we finally have another bay going and the catch dogs get there before it breaks.

Richard and the bulldogs:

We cut out the rest of the dogs and have dogs in every direction before getting another hog stopped about 3/4 mile up creek.

Went and grabbed lunch and decided to hunt a place we call the swamp. It is always good for several hogs but also a swim. Called up some young bucks and had Bandit (Dylan) and Luke W. come over.

Had us a few drinks before heading to the back of the field.
Richard and Me

Dylan and Kayden

About dusk we get to the back of the field and send Richard and Dylan's dogs out. My dogs owner doesnt like to swim so they didnt participate.
Mud and Levi open bayed and we all here water splashing. No one seems to be in a hurry. ...eventually the bay breaks. For the next 20 or so minutes the dogs go on a shoat catching spree. We call it a day with about 5 hogs for the day.

I make a trip to the girlfriends family for Christmas. I broght my jagd, Luke..... just in case.

Luke winding once we got on the ranch...he told me there were hogs but I hadnt made it to their house and didnt know how I would explain that one.

We drove around Christmas day feeding and looking at the country for our upcoming hunt out there.
Mule Deer

No shortage of Muleys

That afternoon we get to talking about hog hunting. My girlfriends dad says hunters arent in and we could hunt if we wanted. I only have one dog and have never done the bay and shoot like the champion Mike Savoy.

We drive about 300 yards from the house kick Luke out and within about a minute of a whole sounder bayed up. Not what I was expecting.

We ended with 6 on the ground and could have been plenty more. I felt guilty shooting the six I did...Just didnt seem right without a catch dog.  Grin

Me and Luke

I would shoot a hog and Luke would have the sounder rallied up again....shoot one and rallied up again. The last one he finally got by itself in a draw and I was able to grab him on the hog.

Video you can hear the hogs rallying up. Damn things were chasing me and the dog...it was a mess. I start yelling at one point because Luke caught a 100 sow and another hog came around hitting Luke...luckily it was a sow and now damage.

Video is not good but sound is pretty cool. Think we will have pretty good luck with the whole pack.  Wink

haha ....I have kinda spoiled this one  Grin If I got tired of anything...be his damn attitude  Evil

Yeah...It's fun when they dont know what a dog is yet. My gf mom was telling a story earlier about the house dog getting chased off the feeder by pigs ....while she was walking. Think we may have some good hunts to come...besides having more land than we can hunt in 3 or 4 days.  Wink

Very nice Rex!  The country on both of those hunts looks good to me!

My last two hunts were 350 miles apart. The east Texas stuff on the Brazos is growing on me...I really like the west Texas country.

Thanks for the comments!

Thanks for sharing that with us Bump,....I enjoyed that. It's a hoot to hear that herd of hogs gettin' all riled up and not knowing what's going on. I'm betting you're gonna have some fun hunts on that place....keep that video cam close by.

Looks like some great property.  I'm looking forward to the invite.   Cool

Savoy is coming to hunt the swamp....we've always got room for one more.

Took Savoy to the swamp and he promtly got his v-card punched.

He's out.  And you're out.  And i don't think I'm in either.
