This is just a thought i had, when i read about justins law,  and was kinda wanting others opinions, i read something about restricting and regestering pit bulls to own them, i did not like it at first but i think it would weed out all the idiots with pits running loose and attacking people.  I know if a law passed where i had to have certain pens and or register as a pit bull owner i would gladly ablige, and all the people who really dont need to own a pit would not.  yeah i would not like the goverment telling me how to run my business, but seriously sholdnt a pit be treated with a little more caution then a weiner dog, even though i have been attacked by pits and weiner dogs when i was younger the weiner dog got me better then the pits just saying.  i was thinking that yes a law restricting and regestering pits would suck, but would it not eventuly make things better for the responcible pit owners.  I mean registering guns kinda blows but it also helps keep it to where people who hunt, and are gun ethusist can keep guns, right?

When it comes to passing laws restricting what you can and cant do its a very slippery slope. While I do agree that pits aren't naturally mean, they are very determined and driven. So what ever the owner teaches this dog to go after....theres no stopping the dog once its in its head that something is prey. Thats what makes a pit dangerous in my opinion. Because our pits have always been the most loveable dogs in our pack.

Now to answer your question, yes if they passed a law requiring me to register my pit and keep it in a certain type of enclosure, I would be happy to do it. As far as backing those types of laws being passed, I wouldn't do it. In my opinion we have way too many laws now. I think that this world needs more common sense and less laws.

Long and short of it is.....it is a bad idea period. All dog owners of any breed should be responsible and held accountable. If the laws would punish the irresponsibility of the owners and not the breeds we would be ok. If they start with one breed then others will be next....it would be all down hill from there imo

with respect, i disagree.  it just keeps those that shouldn't have guns from telling anybody about it.  The restrictions on pit bulls will do the same thing.  The responsible owners will register the dog and build the pen and then the same dope that shouldn't own one now will let his loose again to cause trouble.  It will just be one more unenforceable law on the slippery slope that leads to them being banned altogether,   or one more excuse to let animal control on your place without a warrant because they saw a dog that might be a pit.  If we have to register before owning a pit, how long before we have to register before breeding a pit?  Before we have to mark or chip our dogs and transfer ownership like you have to do with a car?  Before somebody tells us how many litters we can or cannot breed a year?  Before there is a mandatory spay/nueter law for pits? Before a law that tells us how many we can own?  An American Bulldog looks a lot like a pit, they might include them too.  Rotweilers and Dobermans have been on the chopping block for a while now as well.

No thank you on the restrictions.  It's just a foot in the door for an eventual ban or enough restrictive laws that it's not worth owning one anymore, which is what they want.  What I am in favor of is enforcing existing laws, and imposing penalties on owners that let ther dogs run loose to bite people as long as they are not vaguely written.  As far as I'm concerned, if I break into your house, or shed or yard or whatever and your dog bites me then I deserved to be bitten and your dog was just doing his job.  If I'm in a public park and sombody's loose dog bites me then it's their fault, especially if the dog had a history of biting.

I do agree though that owning a pit, or any large breed dog carries with it more responsibility than owning a toy breed.

THAT SAYS IT RIGHT THERE.  I FELL SORRY FOR THE FAMILY,  BUT IT COMES DOWN TO THE OWNERS AND NOT THE BREED OF DOG.  THIS IS COMPLETELY STUPID AND I DO NOT THINK IT WILL GET PASSED, BUT IF IT DOES, IT WOULD BE A HORRIBLE DAY FOR ALL HOG HUNTERS ALIKE AND PEOPLE WHO HAVE PITS AS PETS.

Hey i have met some very mean poodles but laws only work for the people who follow them, people still drink and drive all the time. Just making new laws would not stop it. You still see people fighting pits and chickens.
