That there was out of a big saw blade that I cut a bunch of blanks out of have some d2 blanks is what steel I think they are and then still will mess with a file every now and again but if I remember right it is also d2 in most files I think been a while since I read up on steels still have a bunch of blanks. I have cheated a couple of times and used old bucher blades and even a machete one time and when harden right make pretty good blades
