Our team won second place. I was the old guy on the team JHY (Joey Young) was team leader and coordinator. He will send more pics later, like team pics, hogs caught pics.

Chased the super boar for that area over 15 miles second day. My 18 month jagdterrier female, all of 14 pounds, Ruby went the entire distance and was the last dog to come in.   Ended up crawling up mountain on knees through briars in the dark to call dogs off second day. It was too late by then, contest closed at 5 pm Saturday an hour before we got near the boar.  Catch dogs had him one time, but we made mistake and drove long way around and he busted them loose.

The other half our team delayed first night by game wardens. New game warden did not know the regulations!!  Maybe cost us first place.  Got my UTV stuck worse than ever in deep mud, broke electric winch, but used 8000 lbs ratchet come-along to get out.

Hunt trial was in LA near Arkansas state lines.   On way up stopped in Winn Parish half way and caught a boar in the Dugdemona Swamp. I was the young buck this hunt as at 56 I was a spring chicken compared to my 70 and 80 year old hunting partners. They sent me into the swamp alone to get r dun as all the twenty somethings slept in and were no shows.  A short video of that hog is last link on this page below.

At the camp set up for the trials, dogs everywhere!

I think we caught 3 good boars, a sow and a little pig first night.  All hogs have to be alive for weigh in at end of contest.  I had a borrowed Croatian import that Dr. Larkin owns, imported by Goran, along.  Biscuit (aka Elvis) snuck back and maybe killed one hog we had tied up to a tree and left, so maybe he cost us first place.  Winners are based on total pounds of live hogs brought in at end of 24 hr period.  We got beat out for 1st place by a team with a mess of sows and little pigs.  Our big boar strategy did not pay off this time!

Our Louisiana team will be at the annual Randy Bumpers Memorial Catch and Tie Contest in Buffalo, Texas the last weekend of March.

Video link below in boar from Dugdemona Swamp, taken on way north to contest area near Arkansas/Louisiana state line.

Mr. Bud,

That was a great time for sure!  However, I was way to tired to remember to take any pics of the hogs (I think), but hopefully Mike Warner took some pics.  I need to transfer what pics I do have from my laptop to my desktop and see if there are any to add.  Remember you are more than welcome to come up and hang out with Cody and I at the camp anytime you like.  Here pretty soon we will start hunting on horse back when the corn gets up.

Yes, I too forgot to take photos in the woods, even though I had camera hanging on me the whole time!  Lessons learned, this weekend I will be the official LAZY CAJUNS team videographer!

Thanks Joey for the invite.  My horses have not been hunted in years, everyone here went to UTVs as they aged and got rid of horses.  I would very much like to get the horses out there, my Slick horse has hog hunted years and packs and drags live hogs, does what a horse is supposed to do.  Hate to see him just be a lawn ornament these days.  Looking forward to it.
