Was workin on my garage door last night and my aggrevation got the best of me  .  Went to the Doctor today and have a fractured 5th metacarpal (boxer's fracture)  Sad.  Doctor referred me to a specialist so i called the one who put the plate in my wrist and the soonest i can get in is the 13th  Huh?.  Gotta work all weekend, if  dont it will cost me 500 in overtime and that aint happenin.  Been takin ibuprofen for the swellin, useing ice, and have pinky tapped to wring finger for immobilization.  Now Ive broke my hand before on duty and they had to put it in a cast, doc today said that aint likely, but since i had a plate in my wrist from a MC accident i have to see my specialist even though th plate is fine.  Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it to heal a lil fater or get the swellin to go down faster?  All the rain we gettin here i been in the woods every day and I REALLY REALLY need the OT money.  Suggestions are appreciated..

Go to a drug store and get one of those finger splints, needs to be immobilized one joint above and one joint below. Did u see the xray? Was the fracture displaced or was the broken ends still lined up? If the broken end s are lined up or touching still, it SHOULD heal with 6 weeks with immobilization. But if it don't heal,, they'll just operate and put a pin in it. Good luck

not broken just fractured, and its in the hand not the finger, so i dont know how much the finger splint is gonna do.

I have fractured those bones several times in my right hand while roping. The finger splints that run down to the heal of your hand is what I have always used. Immobilize the finger and the fractured bone both, for quicker healing. Its a very common injury for working cowboys and they all splint it up and tape it the same way and keep right on working. Good luck.

Hey, thats good, if its just fractured,,, but get the splint or a wrist splint, immobilize the knuckle, first joint of that finger, and your wrist. You might be ok not splinting the wrist but better be safe than sorry. When u flex your hand up or down, it pulls on that metacarpal. Same when u wiggle that finger. , but u probably get by with a finger splint, good luck

I don't know how bad you did it but a boxer's fracture crushes the bone and pushes the knuckle into the hand. Mine was bad and I had a brace that went from the forearm up the pinky. But It had a metal thing that stuck out to pull the finger out. They glued a hook on my nail and used a rubber band to keep tension to keep it pulled out. But my finger was pushed way back into my hand and bone had to regrow. Now you can't even tell by looking. Good luck
