We had that happen to our best dog a year ago. James just cleaned it up real good, put it back in the sack, stappled it up and then he went and bayed another hog that night. The next day it swoll up pretty good so i started him on pennicillian and a few days after that I went to check on him and the swelling was gone and he had chewed the stapples out. Now there isn't even much of a scar.

Oh yea, and we got a litter of puppies out of him afterwards.  Grin
we had it happen two months ago we didnt do nothin but give him a shot of penn it looked like it never happened now we didnt even put it back the old ranchers place we were hunting on gave him a new name that day (nutts) and suprisingly the two yr old dog dont go to anyone but us and now him everytime we go hunting there he says ol  nutts come here boy how ya feeling and that dog only besides mayb a pup will go right to him and let him pet him

I got in to see the Doc, his tech was surprised I was able to stitch him up with out knocking him out. I told them it was an early morning set of repairs but I had spent alot of time cleaning him up.  Said just keep an eye out and make sure he keeps draining and stays on feed that if it doesnt go down by mid next week bring him back and he would try to take out the one that may have recvd the most trauma.

I just love the large animal vets compared to the small ones (although I do admit the entire building is an outstanding group).

I now own a bottle of Dex along with a good supply of Baytril and Rymadil.  He said I should just come to work for them lol and then asked if I had called earlier and what name I used, when I told him my maiden name he started laughing and said "heck I didnt know who you were by that name!" I told him I go by both and couldnt remember which one I used most laugh cause doc harvey knows me by my maiden name.  I am so thankful for these guys even though their front desk can be a wee bit difficult . Thanks to everyone for your input as I was truly stumped!

The swelling is caused by the high trauma and the blood stops flowing on its own due to the trauma which causes the skin to swell within 3-4 days the swelling should decrease 5cc penicillin for 10 days and aqua therapy once a day for 10 days not sprayer type pressure just a little more than running hose pressure that will get dead tissue off and allow it to heal faster put a cone on him to keep him from licking to avoid staple or stitch tare do thid and he will be fine any sigh of infection take him in

His boys are on the path to recovery  Cheesy  the Dex was the trick by a long shot, after two days of it he was like new again.  He was jumping up in down in his pen this afternoon like there was nothing wrong lol I was truly concerned that we would have to get him neutered but it looks like he is going to get to keep them.

I will not be with out it again that is for sure....thanks to all that recommended it - if only I had known about it sooner!
