What kind of protein pellets do y'all feed and what are you paying for it per 50#? With the lackof groceries in the woods and the high price of corn I am wanting to put a protein feeder up and let threildlife have something good to eat. Thoughts and tips appreciated.

Red chain cheapest I think they have it a 9 a bag. Lukenbach feed mill has some at around 950 or so

That is pretty good considering corn prices. The local grain mill has corn and roasted soy beans mix for 12.50 but I think I may just start getting pellets from the co-op and build some kind of self feeder. Mix it with corn till they find it and then just put out straight pellets. A lot of does are looking pretty thin trying to raise their fawns so I thought some supplementing might help.

IF u can still find cotton seed it works well and there is still enough forage it will not hurt them. And hogs won't get into it. A feeder made out of a old propane tank works well. The 55 gal drums work but you have to fill them every other day if they are hitting them much.

What we did was cut it little more than half that way could stand in the back of truck to fill. For a lid we took and just welded plate on top and made a lid then 3 legs and for the tube we used 4 inch square tubing make sure it is low enough not to hit antlers but high enough to let them feed. About thigh to waist high. Have the tubing make a upside down T. Make the tubing little longer on top to keep rain out. (Wait what rain just put it in a trough)lmao. If I remember the long end of the T was about 1.5 feet if I remember right. Don't have any pics of it and sorry for skipping around so much.
