I am just getting started hunting hogs with dogs. I have a pair of jagd terriers and a dogo/AB cross also a plott hound/shorthair pointer cross that all hate hogs. I have been workin them on hogs that i have trapped but never in the woods yet. Lookin for any advice for breakin them off trash befor they even get started. I live in Austin so i wont get to hunt as much as i would like. Also lookin for some one to hunt with that wouldnt mind teachin me a thang or two and to work my dogs with some that are started. I dont mind traveling if it is a chance to learn some things.

Welcome!
I'm just up the highway in Belton. Give me a jingle sometime and maybe we can make a round.

If you don't have a shock collar or have any trash training so far, then I would consider only letting one dog run at a time and then if that dog finds a hog let the others go to it. If you got three or four dogs on the ground that have not seen cattle, deer, javelinas, or any varmits before or been corrected from it ,you could have one big cluster if all four dogs get into it, you will need alot of help getting them off of something and teach them the wrong things. If that one dog trashes it is alot easier to get them lined out and teach them a lesson by itself. It is alot less headaches to teach them right from the start then it is to try and break bad habits. If your dogs get into Javelinas you will regret it, and may have a few less dogs to contend with.
U can rotate them out hunting one at a time, so all get some work. And if they get on hogs theier first llesson will hopefully be the right one that teaches them the way to go from then out out. If all dogs are together and get after cattle or anything for that matter he pack menatility takes over anything yopu may have to say to them.
