Ok so i know this topic has been beat to death but ive got a question for yall.

Ive got a 1 yaer old male cur dog, thats always been kind of a face barker.  No problems loose in the yard or in the woods.  but in the en hes a little bit of a pain in the rear.  yesterday him and my 6 year old got into it.  i wasnt home so i dont know the specifics but today they are btoh a little swole up and limpin and today he tried grabbin one of my pups through the pen.  Like i said no problems in the yard or in the woods so im not aggrevated enough with the pen situation to cull him....yet.  This afternoon i did the cu dog shuffle and moved him to the end pup my female between him and the male pup nd put some tin up to limit his view of the other dogs.  Aybody got any other ideas.  And since i know the first six posts will say cull.. NO PROBLEM ANY WHERE OTHER THAN THE PEN an it just started...  fire the suggestions away.  Oh i almost forgot NO PEOPLE aggression either.

remove his manhood, banding works good and it's easy.

Boys will be boys.. $hit... girls can be even worse...  trust me  Wink

I always used to keep all my dogs loose in one big paddock... For yrs I had no problems, they knew the pecking order and I was at the top of it if there was any confusions about the way things were...

Let's just say I don't leave home now till the dogs are all put up in seperate pens...  when I'm home I'm not worried about anything... but when you're not there, things can get serious real quick...

Seperate them (securely) when you ain't home, I had to learn the hard way.

i thought about doin this but he is a well bred yella dog, built and looks the way i like.  And to be honest dogs like him are hard to find around here, simply because they arent for sale.  Im on a friend of mines dad's waiting list.  have been for three years.  Embarrassed

noah thats kind of where i am at, my pens are seperated with welded wire (i cant afford pannels  Embarrassed) an he just started at the other through the pen.  I know hes the instigatorsince my old dog will sit there and get beat on til hes had enough.  Any other ideas other than the tin sheets over the wire to keep him from face barkin and puttin his nose where it dont belong?

Plexiglass with holes drilled in it... Ideally, though, just seperate pens away from each other

Now thats not a bad idea.  Guess i may have to run down to Home depot tomorrow.  Used the tin cause i had it.  All my pens are built together so the seperate pens isnt an option at this point finacially speaking.  Im thinkin a little shock therapy ma be in order but im lso thinkin that may just irretate him more.

would you really want to breed a dog with aggression issues, that's a tough trait to shake once it is set in a line, but he may be well worth it to you, for me to do it he would have to be one in a million

It would be best if he had a pen all by himself but if not then putting a female between the males is best. Plywood or tin sheets so the dogs can not see each other is best if only a wire fence seperates them. This aggressive dominant trait is hard to break and it seems to be a dominant genetic trait that is easily passed on to the offspring.

Like i said, its only in the pen.  NO WHERE ELSE.  All of the dogs have their own pens but they are only seperated by welded wire.  I can cram four in one side of my box and there is NO issue.  I put my gyp between he and the other males and put some tin up because he and my gyp will face bark at feeding time.  I understand the aggressive nature can be passed to off spring, BUT these are not lap dogs and I expect my curs to catch so they need to be somewhat aggressive.  Thanks for the input guys

Aint that the truth.  the reason the two males were next to each other in the first place was cause my female had a litter of pups, and she was VERY protective.  I just never moved them back around after the pups were weaned.

I got a dog kinda like that. He hates puppies, all kinds no matter what he bites em all. I have shocked him and done "other" things to stop him. Well nothing worked. To me he is good enough to deal with it and just don't let him around puppies. He is good with other dogs he is familiar with in the yard, and no problems what so ever if the field. So he is good enough for me to just deal with it, and keep him away from puppies!

Shocked the way i see it he is in his pen and thats his pen wrong!!! that pen belongs to u he is just a renter. i think he feels pressured by ur other male trien to invade on his home. if he is fine in the woods and in the box and every where else but the kennels, i think he is just trien to protect his space!!!

Chris thats kinda wha i figure.  he knows who the boss is from a little pen barkin he had when he got here.  When the shock therapy didnt work we went to a piece of screen spline.  Id get in his pen and we would "discuss" what the word hush means.  Hes prob just getting into the testosterone stage.

I don't mind it so long as it does not affect hunting and not people aggressive.  Now I do set them straight every time it happens though
